Beautiful views, privacy and escape from the bustle of the city life attract all kinds of folks to Gates Ranch, an exclusive community of family farms, including Dr. Amy Woodruff and her husband, Dr. Trent Baker, who selected Gates Ranch as the ideal country retreat for themselves and their three children.

“We want to experience a peaceful, wide-open space during our time away, and we want our children to experience a place that will foster independence and imagination in them,” said Dr. Woodruff.  “We want our home to be restful and inviting.  I would describe my vision of the house as the place where I want to see me and my children and their families celebrating holidays together 30 years from now.”

The Baker/Woodruff farm features Church Pond, a great spot for a quiet day of fishing.

Drs. Woodruff and Baker selected the Mt. Zion, Church Pond and Wood Run farms, where they plan to build a house and barn that match the land’s character, complements the open space and is constructed of materials that will be “inspired by the nature at their doorsteps.”  Their children, ages 10, 7 and 2, envision caring for a horse and maybe a few cows.

Mount Zion offers a long view that stretches out over Church Pond with the historic Mt. Zion Church in the background.

“My husband (who grew up on a farm in Missouri) and I are most interested in the fresh air, trees, wild flowers and butterflies as well as a small orchard and homegrown vegetable garden,” said Dr. Woodruff.

The generous pasturelands of Wood Run offer a great place for horses and other trophy livestock to graze year-round.

Prior to purchasing the property, Dr. Woodruff wrote to David S. Wolff, who conceived Gates Ranch.  She said, “I also believe that you care deeply about how this land will be cared for after it is sold.  We, as a family, will respect this land.”

At Gates Ranch, we extend a hearty howdy and welcome to Drs. Woodruff and Baker and their three young ranch hands.

We also welcome you to come see what others are discovering–exclusive, private ranch and farm living that you’ll find at Gates Ranch.  We’ve sold 70% of the family farms in Phases I & II, so we encourage you to visit us soon.  And we’re just a stone’s throw from Houston, about an hour away.  For more information about Gates Ranch or to schedule your personal tour, please call Cyndee Smith with Oldham Goodwin Group at 713-816-3407 or visit www.gatesranchtx.com.
